| dc.description.abstract | El género Vanilla (Orchidaceae) comprende unas 107 especies de orquídeas con habito de crecimiento hemiepífito, nativa de América tropical (desde México hasta Ecuador), pero se encuentran distribuidas de manera pantropical. Estas plantas crecen de manera natural en poblaciones hiperdispersas, con preferencia en bordes de bosque. La especie más importante económicamente y más importante a nivel mundial es V. planifolia (vainilla), pues es la única fuente de vainilla natural proviene de sus frutos que tienen gran importancia comercial en la industria, por lo cual alcanza precios altos en los mercados internacionales. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstracteng | The genus Vanilla (Orchidaceae) comprises some 107 species of orchids with a hemiepiphytic growth habit, native to tropical America (from Mexico to Ecuador), but they are distributed in a pantropical way. These plants grow naturally in hyperdispersed populations, preferably on forest edges. The most economically important and most important species worldwide is V. planifolia (vanilla), as it is the only source of natural vainilla that comes from its fruits that are of great commercial importance in the industry, for which it reaches high prices in international markets.
